The one rituals that Dr. Banks and Ian Donnelly everytime went thru is the process of suiting up and suiting out. They will suit up and go to the spacecraft, after every session with the heptapods, they will wash their whole body with the suit together before suiting out to prevent any kind of infection or sickness.
Emotion in this movie is very important as well as communication, what emotion you show to other will reflect how other people treat you. The humans show a very conservative in trying to know why are the heptapods here but Dr. Banks show a very passionate feeling towards trying to understand the heptapods by taking off her suit in the spacecraft although there is an unknown chemical in the spacecraft.
After Dr. Banks slowly understand the heptapods language, she was able to look in the future for a moment to know what will happen next but this also show that Dr. Banks does not want to change what has been determine for her by going with the flow.For example, Dr. Banks knowing that her daughter will pass away if she married to Ian Donnelly but she did not change it and follow her faith.
The Arrival movie had made us confused, thrilled and even feel the romance on Louise Banks and Ian Donnelly. We can say that the genre of this movie is about science fiction, thriller and romance.

Science Fiction, it is known as science fiction because the story is based on imagined futuristic technology, heptapods the aliens, spacecraft and Dr. Banks going into the future and coming back to the present.

Thriller, the movie use all different kinds of sound effects to bring out the thrilling experience of the movie. The interior of the spacecraft is also well design in terms of what are they going to experience, for example the dark and texture of the spacecraft that express a very thrilling emotion.
The Genre
This picture shows the texture and the lighting in the spacecraft.
Romance, I would rename it as science romance since it is a romance between Louise Banks, a linguist and Ian Donnelly, a genius mathematician. Ian Donnelly said "You know I've had my head tilted up to the stars for as long as I can remember. You know what surprised me the most? It wasn't meeting them. It was meeting you." towards Louise Banks. In this words that Ian Donnelly had said make me notice that his affection towards Louise Banks.
The Background & Setting
The world they are living is in a realistic world so called Earth. The people living inside is living in the present but the Louise Banks is able to have a small moment in the future and coming back to the present.
The Landscape, it can be said it is well taken because the landscape of each scene is very minimalist. By means, a hierarchy in every scene. For example, the picture on the right shows the spacecraft as the hierarchy and it makes a contrast. It is situated in Montana and all the inhabitants are evacuated from the spacecraft area. The people's attitude towards the spacecraft is merely barbaric by causing riots and the crime rate increase from time to time.
This picture shows Dr.Banks in the present, left and in the future, right.
In this movie, we can see that all of the country are not united as one when it comes to sharing information to each other. They shared information that is not really helpful, when Dr. Banks try to communicate to other countries but she couldnt because of the higher authority that stop her and disconnect the communication line from others.

In my opinion, this movie had me going thru a lot of question by thinking why they are so many flash bag about the daughter but it is not the past, it is the future she saw.

The background & setting for this movie is suitable for it's theme because it give a spooky and mystery feeling. For example, the background and the mist in the spacecraft give a mystery feeling about the scene. It's easily understandable in each setting because each scene is also a serious emotion, every scene is in a mystery and curiosity feeling. By using all the dark lighting, I think it could relate to the story that is time.

It's my first time watching a movie with the whole class and the lecturer, how cool could that be? The fun part is stressing out trying to understand the movie and being cheated by the movie.
