ADMIRING HUSSEY’S WORKS
Sutherland Hussey is a person that always take care of the buildings site context to its design, some said a architect that shows love and care for everything will succeed. Sutherland Hussey is so call a successful architect in my perspective. He always care for weather that affect the user and also the shelter effect.

PROLOGUE
They are few project that I like that is AN TURAS in englsih it’s call The Journey, Sutherland Hussey design this building like he always do, by considering the site context and adapt to it. They are 3 spatial sequence he wanted to express. First, the white walls, give you a view to the sky and shelter you from the strong wind. This white wall give the users a relaxing moment while walking futher with no wind blowing towards you, it makes you feel the quietness of the space.
Secondly would be the bridge that is in black, this bridge is to protect the user from wind and rocks but also open to the rock and sand of the beach below. In my opinion, he is trying to express the whole journey in an amazing way where you feel spacious and suddenly dark and again to spacious. A very playful between feelings.
Third would be the Glass Box that shows a complete panorama, looking out along Gott Bay and beyond. What amaze me is that how this building adapt to the whole site context and this building has made it to become a stamp for postcards.
Next would be a adaptive reuse house that is at Lawson Park, previously this house declined down as a sheep farm but then Sutherland Hussey made it into a holiday home, feel like home when you holiday. Then back to his own concept again, site context as his first priority. The material mostly are reuse material that is found in the site.
I feel that when he choose his material he always choose it depends on how would a user want to feel, like the timber show a very warm feeling and also he shows consistent and proportion in his material placing. One thing I like about him is always considering the site context before executing something.
These windows from the outside, it looks like a normal window but inside the building it creates a spaces that makes the light penetrate in following its wave. Hence, trying to create a warmth feeling for the family who come in the building. I think that he is trying to express a holiday house as a home and not like the normal hotels that you just use it purpose just for sleeping, meanwhile this house makes the family appreciate how good it is to have everyone together.
In my opinion, during the talk, It’s hard to understand what Sutherland Hussey is trying to say despite his accent, and he is an architect that seeks for site context not like some other architect that focus on human sensations.
