THEORIES OF ARCHITECTURE DESIGN
BODY AND LANSCAPE

Eric Chen, 39 from Taiwan. Illumine of Taiwan National University of the Arts, Tainan, Taiwan. The founder of ArchiBlur Lab, and also the professor of Chung Yuan Architecture College and University.

First met with him is in johor, during PublikArt Project. He is a very humble and caring lecturer. We learned a lot from him during the project, knowledge of not only architecture, but soft skill and life. He also shares with us that what he has been doing during the recent years, it is lots of art installation around the globe. Every art installation that creates by Archiblur, is not only having an aesthetic outlooks, but also fill with a deep meaning inside, and gives new function to the site.

Projects of Archiblur Lab usually show the appreciation towards the landscape, human, history background and environment of the site. They focus on the relationship between body and landscape as way of seeing.
In the talk he gave in UCSI, he shares about the project of “Urban Archipelagos”, which includes:

-
Portable Structural – Moveable Gallery
-
Landscape installation – Dynamic Landscape
-
Adaptive Reuse of Abandoned Sugar Cane Factory
Moveable Gallery is mainly showcase about the history and background of a site that recorded by the local people. It recalls and reminds the people who passes by the installation every day, about how the place used to like, and what had happened here. History and culture should be introduce to all the new generation nowadays, to recall them all the great contributions that were given from the old generations, and remind them to appreciate it and also what they are having today.
1. Portable Structural - Mobile Gallery

these 3 is basically about the memories and stories of the local people over there, It show case to the passengers there everyday.
this is The River Bank Story house. It consists a roof garden that get the water supply from the river. this Installation is here to remind the people appreciate the site context and be aware of every new development that will destroy the environment

These two installation were collaborated with Xiuchuan Health Center. It is not only an art installation, but also provide medical checkup to the local people. It also promote the caring awareness to the public frequently, by giving talk, x-ray scanning etc. This is what i mentioned early about, art instllation with functionality which gives benefits.

This is another example of art installation with functionality which gives benefit to the public. they are basically a rain water collector and electrical generator (wind). It utilize the gifts of the nature mother, and convert it to something useful in human daily life.

This is a interesting structure as it is very flexible and able to combine with one and another. It is able to joined up to 6 units maximum of the structure.
2. Landscape Installlation - Dynamic Lanscape
This is a project which makes archblur done several researches on the history archives. Which includes conversation with the old ones, handwritten material, old photo restoration and etc. basically is mostly about the culture, site context, and community. Really amaze by the idea of him, of the way to exhibit all if this. Especially this:

We can only see what we see as in the picture when we are on the floor level, which only the brown colour compressed chipboard texture huge block on the floor (which is claims that is actually representing the section of the earth, wow). And when follows the steps they install, vision level will be raised and finally see is beautiful and precise site model.
And also this, he come out with an idea of make the contour by the mosquito net. A material that looks soft, with no power and lethal but able to protect us in silence. Is like the contributions that the old generations has gave to us.

3. Adaptive Reuse of Abandoned Sugar Cane Factory

A adaptive reuse to a old factory. What his biggest concern toward this project is that to enhance the relationship and connection between each of the spot in it. The most interesting part of this project is the multi level landscape idea.
