ARRIVAL MOVIE REVIEW

Q1.To compare the story of the movie to ONE of the eight basic stories learnt in class

From the movie ARRIVAL ,I conclude that it only have a part that relevant to the one eight basic stories that I learnt from the last lecture. According to the storyline, the linguistic professor( Louise bank ) is leading an elite team in order to tackle the problem of the arrival of 12 gigantic spaceship that landed in a 12 specific space of each specific country accross the planet. In this task, she is able to meet a man that is Ian and they are conducted countless of experiment in order to communicate with the alien that named abbott and Costello. As she become more proficient, she can start to see and dream vivid image of herself with her daughter .

In the process of discovering the answer in order to communicate with alien, Louise Bank and Ian is already liked each other .At the important moment before a war is begin to launched, Louise Bank is able to understand the words of the alien and she realized that the aliens are here to give human a present but not a destruction and she is able to know the parts of her future, with this ability, she only able to stop the war between the alien and the countries. In this process, she realize that aliens coming for the weapon of the human IN EXCHANGE of their language, this scene got a bit relevant to one of the eight basic stories that is ORPHEUS that I learnt in the lecture which carrying the meaning- the gift that taken away, the loss of something personal in exchange.

THE COMMUNICATION THAT CONDUCTED WITH ALIEN

From this sentence, we can link this to the one of the scene of this movie that is the alien is going to exchange the weapon of human in exchange of their language. So, both alien and human is losing a thing in order to exchange for the thing that required. But the one of the aspect that is slightly different from the ORPHEUS .According to the explanation of the ORPHEUS, the tragedy is following after the exchange is happened but the exchange that occur in the movie is follow up with a happy ending ,Louise Bank and her husband is having a baby call HANNAH and she is able to save the world and also bring a precious present to human. This difference lead to a different ending to Louise Bank, the whole world is going to become a tragedy if she is not able to make a deal with the aliens.

To explain further deeper about the story of the topic of the ORPHEUS, there is consists of a few of example of the movies that can clearly explain about this such as rain and signs.

From this movie, I have also learnt some extra knowledge that can be used in my life that is the important of communication, an unsuccessful communication can lead us to a serious problem as shown in ARRIVAL movie, because of the miscommunication, a war is almost launced between the alien and human and finally lead to destruction.
