PROLOGUE
Ornamentation in a typical definition it’s called things added to something to provide decoration. In architecturally, ornaments is waste of materials and does not provide any meaning according to Adolf Loos but ornaments to Joseph Rykwert is every ornament has a purpose. From the articles I read, it can be said that ornamentation have meanings that only you yourself can see.
ORNAMENTATION AND ITS ROLE
The sign that the restaurant use to put on top of the roof is an ornamentation for economical. Economical ornamentation is a method of decorating solely for the sake of money purposes. The sign provides an information that tells human that what it is, a restaurant or a bar? It also will attract human to their space inside, by right attracting customers.

From the skylight we observe, this ornamentation is environmental. Environmental ornamentation is a method of decorating by considering the environment on how it would affect the building. For the skylight, it provides natural lighting to the building by letting the human to visually connect with the outside world. You be wondering why not use artificial lighting instead of skylight, if a human is in a room with only artificial lighting, the human would not be able to visually connect to the outside world.

The modern architects always like to create a fence with different function, for example the cripple plants and blocks of concrete with air vents. It’s also a environmental ornamentation that helps fit the building to the environment. It helps the building by filtering cold air in and it create a really private and cool feeling once you are inside the building.

Sometimes we thought that ornamentation purposes solely just for beautifying an object, but its not, for example, this pattern on the facade is an example of environmental ornamentation. This facade pattern is act as an air vent that will clear out any smelly odor in the building and its also provides natural lighting for humans. From the facade pattern, we know that ornamentation serve a lot of purpose.

The fourth text will be about understanding ornamentation and knowing when to use it. I mean not to hate ornamentation but to understand its requirement of ornamentation’s purpose. You can’t simply decorate without reason like designing a building, you can’t create a space and called it bedroom without any reason. This is when ornamentation with reasons comes help making your idea space of bedroom to bedroom. Ornamentation can be used but not widely, by taking all the ideas and simplify it to make it a better ornamentation could lead to simplicity also. In conclusion, a person will understand an ornamentation with and only using their heart to design it and with purposes.
THE FOURTH TEXT
Cultural ornamentation from my understanding, it is an ornamentation that serve as a logo or a symbol to the culture. So, from the window, what I can observe is that the culture of this window has a Chinese culture. Chinese culture in terms of the window that has less visibility because in 80s and 90s Chinese movies, they always use this kind of windows that provide less visibility.
