What is the role of honesty and deception in architecture today? Is honesty and deception predominantly about the expression of structure, the relationship between interior and exterior, the expression of goals and challenges of the architect; some combination of these; or something else? in other words, if a fourth text were added to this chapter what would the argument be about today's architecture in relation to honesty & deception?

In my opinion, honestly in architecture means a building that is completely shows the building structure from roof until footing. For me, this is an architecture that can show the beautiness of the structure of the building by showing the ornament of the building. In my opinion, Deception in architecture means that the building that the structure that is fully covered

.For an example, the design of Zahal Hadid architect is quite suitable for this topic of deception architecture because the building structure is covered by the façade which is nice in appearance.

Buildings are like human, can be honest, can be dishonest. Because design detail does not manipulating the functionality of the building, You may find this quite familiar. Mies van der Rohe had his famous words “Form Follows Function”, and he will be the first one presenting some dishonest architecture. One example is the Kluczynski Federal Building (1974) – one of the several buildings of the Chicago Federal Center complex in downtown Chicago. The vertical I-beams on the exterior surface that travel across the entire facade does nothing more than decoration. Aesthetically it is pleasant to view; they add pattern and vibration to the massive structure; the material contributes to the overallness. However, these “beams” are clearly not based on function. There Mies betrayed himself.

So, with that being said, what is honesty in architecture? Ruskin himself propose three types of deceits, which brings us to structural honesty, surface honesty, and operative honesty. I do agree with most of the points, but not the last. He promotes the use of handcraft items and believe that only by that, architecture is truly honest, “You use that which pretends to worth it has not; which pretends to have cost and to be, what it did not, and is not …”.I feel that in the fast-growing technological advancement, I do believe that new materials either man-made or machinery, are available for an honesty architecture, only if it is apply only for what it’s for and not implying other purposes. As the construction industries, have become more advanced, I feel that we should as well. Therefore, I do believe that there should be no limitation to the vast variety of materials, only the limitation to its function and purposes.

In these days, peoples are focusing on the beauty and innovative of the building that is full of the deceive factor. But for me, I will more prefer to simple architecture that is honest architecture because honestly architecture can clearly show the beauty of the structure in exterior and also interior of the building.
